Comparative & Superlative

Use a forma comparativa para comparar duas coisas, e a superlativa para comparar uma com todas as outras de um grupo. Adjetivos curtos recebem -er/-est, os longos usam more/most. Formas irregulares: good/better/best e bad/worse/worst.

QUANDO USAR

Use o comparativo (+ than) para comparar duas coisas ou pessoas. Use o superlativo (the + est / the most) para comparar uma com todas as outras de um grupo.

ESTRUTURA

formShort adj + -er + than / the + adj + -est

This bag is cheaper than that one. It's the cheapest in the store.

Esta bolsa é **mais barata que** aquela. É **a mais barata** da loja.

She is more talented than her sister. She is the most talented in the class.

Ela é **mais talentosa que** a irmã. É **a mais talentosa** da turma.

REGRAS DE ORTOGRAFIA (ELE/ELA)

Adjetivo curto (1 sílaba)adicione -er / -esttall → taller → tallest
Termina em -eadicione -r / -stnice → nicer → nicest
Adjetivo curto terminado em consoante-vogal-consoantedobre a consoante + -er/-estbig → bigger → biggest

ERROS COMUNS

She is more tall than me.

She is taller than me.

Adjetivos curtos (1 sílaba) usam -er, não "more"

This is the most good film.

This is the best film.

"Good" tem superlativo irregular: best (não most good)

Dica

Regra geral: adjetivos de 1 sílaba → adicione -er/-est. 3+ sílabas → sempre more/most. 2 sílabas → depende (consulte o dicionário ou memorize os comuns como "happier", "more useful").
