There is / There are（～がある／ある）

There is / There are

何かが存在することを言うときや、単数名詞・不可算名詞を述べるときに "there is" を使います。複数名詞には "there are" を使います。疑問文では主語と動詞を入れ替えます："Is there...?"

使い方

何かの存在を導入したり知らせたりするのに "there is/are" を使います。ある場所に何があるかを述べるときや、何かが存在する（しない）ことを言うときによく使われます。

positiveThere is + singular/uncountable noun

There is a supermarket on the corner.

角に**スーパーがあります**。

negativeThere isn't / There aren't + noun

There aren't any seats left.

**席が残っていません**。

questionIs there / Are there + noun?

Is there a bank near here?

この近くに**銀行はありますか**？

There are three bedrooms in this apartment.

このアパートには**寝室が3つあります**。

Is there any milk in the fridge?

冷蔵庫に**牛乳がありますか**？

There isn't enough time.

**十分な時間がありません**。

There were many people at the concert.

コンサートには**たくさんの人がいました**。

It is a problem with the computer.

何かの存在を紹介するときは "there is" を使います — "it is" ではありません

There is many students in the class.

There are many students in the class.

複数名詞には "there are" を使います

"is" や "are" は "there" ではなく、その後に続く名詞と一致します。なので後に何が来るかを意識しましょう：「There IS a dog」（単数）vs「There ARE dogs」（複数）。
