Second Conditional

Der Second Conditional beschreibt hypothetische oder unwirkliche Situationen in der Gegenwart oder Zukunft. Es wird für imaginäre Szenarien oder höfliche Ratschläge verwendet. Struktur: If + Simple Past, would + Grundform. Im formellen Englisch wird oft "were" statt "was" verwendet.

WANN MAN ES VERWENDET

Verwende es für imaginäre, hypothetische oder unwahrscheinliche Situationen in der Gegenwart oder Zukunft. Wird auch höflich bei Ratschlägen verwendet ("If I were you, I would...").

STRUKTUR

positiveIf + past simple, would + base verb

If I had more money, I would travel the world.

**Wenn** ich mehr Geld **hätte**, **würde** ich um die Welt **reisen**.

negativeIf + past simple, wouldn't + base verb

If she liked spicy food, she wouldn't avoid it.

**Wenn** sie scharfes Essen **mögen würde**, **würde** sie es **nicht meiden**.

HÄUFIGE FEHLER

If I would have more money, I would travel.

If I had more money, I would travel.

In der if-Klausel Simple Past verwenden — NICHT "would"

If I was you, I would leave.

If I were you, I would leave.

Verwende im formellen Englisch im 2nd Conditional "were" für alle Subjekte, insbesondere "I were you"

Tipp

Der Schlüssel zum Second Conditional: BEIDE Sachen sind gerade unwirklich/unwahrscheinlich. "If I had a million dollars" = habe ich nicht. "I would buy a house" = ich kaufe nicht. Alles imaginär!
