Wish e If Only

Wish & If Only

Usa 'wish/if only + trapassato prossimo' per rimpianti su situazioni passate. Usa 'wish + could' per desideri riguardo all'abilità.

STRUTTURA

formwish / if only + past simple (unreal present/future)

I wish I could speak Spanish fluently.

**Vorrei** **poter parlare** spagnolo fluentemente.

usagewish / if only + past perfect (regret about past)

If only I had studied harder for that exam!

ESEMPI

I wish I could speak Spanish fluently.

**Vorrei** **poter parlare** spagnolo fluentemente.

If only I had studied harder for that exam!

She wishes she hadn't said those harsh words.

Lei **vorrebbe non aver detto** quelle parole dure.

I wish it were sunny today.

**Vorrei** che **fosse** soleggiato oggi.

If only we had left earlier — we missed the train.

ERRORI COMUNI

I wish I can speak French.

I wish I could speak French.

Dopo 'wish', usa forme al passato: 'could' (non 'can'), 'were' (non 'am/is'), 'had' (non 'have').

I wish I didn't eat so much last night.

I wish I hadn't eaten so much last night.
