There is / There are (Il y a)

There is / There are

Utilisez "there is" pour dire qu'une chose existe ou pour décrire un nom singulier ou indénombrable. Utilisez "there are" pour les noms au pluriel. Dans les questions, inversez sujet et verbe : "Is there...?"

QUAND L'UTILISER

Utilisez "there is/are" pour introduire ou annoncer l'existence de quelque chose. C'est très courant pour décrire ce qui se trouve dans un endroit ou pour indiquer que quelque chose existe (ou n'existe pas).

Utilisez "there is" pour introduire l'existence de quelque chose — pas "it is"

There is many students in the class.

There are many students in the class.

Utilisez "there are" avec les noms au pluriel

Astuce

Le verbe "is" ou "are" s'accorde avec le nom qui suit, non avec "there". Prêtez donc attention à ce qui vient après : "There IS a dog" (singulier) vs "There ARE dogs" (pluriel).
